Madam DeBiers

Madam DeBiers

The look: Spacious and comfortable, there are two levels with polished hard-wood floors, tasteful minimalist décor and plenty of seating. This casual yet stylish backpacker haven opened last Christmas and fits about 500.
The soundtrack: Music fills this bustling bar with acoustic nights on Mondays and Thursdays, and a popular open mic night for musicians on Tuesdays.
Signature drink: Beer! There are over twenty bottled beers and twelve tap beers. Kick your night off with a solid 450ml Stein of German, Dab beer ($8.50).
The bar snacks: After a few middies devour some hearty garlic bread large damper loaf with garlic butter ($6.50), beer battered onion rings ($5) or a kangaroo stone oven pizza ($11).
Best for: Watching sport, drinking, and entertaining visiting back-packer mates. All the major sporting events are shown here. There’s a massive projector screen plus four plasmas so you’re guaranteed a great view of the action.
Wow factor: There’s cheap food and drink in central Sydney, plus live music on every night of the week.
If this bar were an animal it would be: A perpetually happy kangaroo.
