Penny Blue
The Look: A more feminine version of its sibling venue, MOO, Penny Blue keeps the antique wine library look but swaps the Chesterfields for chaise lounges, velvet and sable cushions.
To drink: Patrons get an edited version of the MOO drinks list but that said, there’s still more choice than you’ll ever really need – especially in the wine department. The elegant surrounds call for fancy refreshments and a glass of Pol Roger ($17.50) or a passionfruit and blood orange martini ($16) should do the business.
To eat: During the day there’s a concise selection of lunch dishes including poached salmon salad ($13) and by night, a better-than-average grazing menu including saganaki toasties ($9) and cod fritters with aioli ($10).
Bar Soundtrack: French chanteuse and jazz friendly, though there’s a set of turntables in the cellar enclosure. Maybe Penny Blue has the world’s first DJ sommelier? The vibe: Leisured opulence.
Best for: Girls’ nights or celebrating a deal well done.
